 FAQ's

FAQS: About Therapy

  1. What is therapy, and how can it help me? Therapy is a collaborative process where we'll explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help you understand yourself better, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in your life and relationships.

  2. Who typically goes to therapy? People from all walks of life seek therapy for various reasons, including managing stress, enhancing relationships, coping with challenging emotions, and promoting personal growth.

  3. How do I know if therapy is right for me? If you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling in your relationships, experiencing persistent sadness or anxiety, or want to understand yourself better, therapy can be a helpful resource.

  4. What are the benefits of seeing a therapist in private practice versus a clinic? In a private practice, you can often experience more personalized care, consistent contact with the same therapist, and a comfortable, confidential setting.

  5. How long does therapy usually last? The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people find short-term therapy helpful, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll discuss this together.

  6. How often will I need to come for sessions? Typically, sessions are held weekly, bi-weekly, or Monthly; however, we can discuss a frequency that best suits your needs and availability.

  7. What can I expect during a therapy session? Sessions are a safe and supportive space for you to talk openly about what's on your mind. I'll listen, ask questions to help you gain insight, and we'll work together to develop strategies for change.

  8. Will what I say in therapy be kept private? Yes, confidentiality is paramount. What you share in our sessions is kept confidential, with a few exceptions that we will discuss during our initial meeting.

  9. What if I don't feel a connection with my therapist? The therapeutic relationship is crucial. If you don't feel a good fit, please let me know, and I can help you find a therapist who might be a better match.

  10. Is medication the same as therapy? No, medication and therapy are different approaches. Medication primarily addresses biological aspects, while therapy focuses on psychological and emotional factors. Sometimes they can be used effectively together. I will make psychiatric referrals with your permission and after discussion with you about your specific needs, if I believe that Medication evaluation is needed or a medication change is needed.

Addressing Your Concerns

  1. I'm nervous about starting therapy. What should I expect? It's normal to feel nervous. I aim to create a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment to help you feel comfortable.

  2. I'm worried about being judged. Will you be judgmental?  Absolutely no. My role is to provide a safe and accepting space for you to explore your experiences without judgment.

  3. What if I don't know what to talk about in therapy? That's perfectly okay. We can work together to identify what's important to you and what you'd like to focus on. Therapy is your space, and you get to define that as we go along.

  4. How will I know if therapy is working for me? We'll regularly discuss your progress, and you may notice positive changes in your mood, relationships, and overall well-being. We'll set goals together to help track your progress.

  5. What if I need to contact you between sessions? You can always reach out and request additional sessions, resources, and support information in the community. I aim to answer correspondence within 24-48 hours.
